About the event

Restor(y)ing the Self with Leigh Bennett

Stories surround us. Sometimes we find ourselves very much alive in and part of those stories, sometimes we can not locate ourselves in them at all, even those stories that mean the most to us. Based on the article “Restorying the Self: Bending Toward Textual Justice”, this workshop asks participants to identify a story that is meaningful to them but in which they do not (yet) feel present. Then, using the multimodal tools of digital storytelling, participants will begin to reshape the narrative so that it becomes their own. This could mean recasting a favorite folk or fairytale, a movie plot or a family narrative; it might also take the shape of revisiting a previous digital story and reproducing it using a new angle, perspective, or mode.
